Hi Denis! Great to be in touch. Can you share more about any work you are doing with radio stations? Our developers are based in the iHub in Nairobi. Thanks, Amy \~/
Hi, I’m Jenn – I’m working in Afghanistan with SMS and the Radio station. I saw this website after doing some research on Frontline:Medic. This is right up my organization’s alley! Amy I’d like to speak with you further about Frontline:Radio and how we can use it with our Agriculture projects…
Great to hear about your project! More than happy to chat with you – I’ll send you an email now! Otherwise might be nice if you wanted to post something about your project in the FrontlineSMS Media group http://frontlinesms.ning.com/group/media to share ideas with the community?
I am a missionary of the Catholic Church here in the northern part of Mozambique. We work very closely with a community radio station in our village. I think your tools will help us provide two-way communications between the radio station and our listeners. Most of the families here own a radio, which is the most precious electronics, or only electronic in their house. The majority of the people in our communities don’t have electricity, or cellular signal. Our schools here are full of students. We lack classrooms and teachers to educate these youth. The radio remains the only technology that reaches the most people who have access in our area.
Looking forward to hear from you and receive more updates on the project. Keep up the great work.
Great to hear about your project and the widespread use of radio. Do people in the communities tend to have access to a mobile phone? Does the station ever ask them to interact via SMS? The FrontlineSMS:Radio software is currently in a closed beta trial but I will of course let you know when you’ll be able to check it out.
I am a Knight International Journalism Fellow (International Center for Journalists, ICFJ) working with the media, mainly radio stations, here in Liberia for a year. The general elections are less than 4 weeks away and I imagine your frontlineSMS: Radio would be most useful to the dozens of community radio stations that are covering the elections. Is there a possibility of deployment of several of the software on a trial basis with some key radio stations here in Liberia? If so, please email me details of what is required for that to happen soonest.
Thanks for getting in touch, your project sounds fascinating. FrontlineSMS:Radio is currently in a closed trial with 3 stations as we gather intensive feedback and we wouldn’t recommend using the beta for mission critical projects.
I am happy to subcribe because am starting frontline SMS with a local radio station in the Autonomous Bougainville Region of Papua New Guinea in a campaign to address drug and alcohol issues among young people. This will help me in my campaign
Thanks for your interest! Your project ideas sound fantastic and FrontlineSMS seems to be a tool which can help! Can you tell me the name of your station please? I’ll drop you an information with details about the trial of the new FrontlineSMS:Radio software!
We produce radio documentaries for non-profit organizations that work in Africa and we’re currently exploring ways to get direct feedback from community radio listeners (mainly rural).
Can this tool be set up remotely when used for a radio project, or must it be housed at the radio station?
Thanks for your interest and great to hear about your work in radio. At the moment it has to be housed in a radio station – although you could consider remote access programmes like teamviewer where team members could take control of another desktop via the internet. I’d love to chat more – feel free to email me on amy [at] frontlinesms.com

In the meantime you might try using the currently available version of FrontlineSMS which you can download from here http://www.frontlinesms.com/resources/download/

Very useful post.

Hi Luisa,
Thanks for getting in touch, your project sounds fascinating. FrontlineSMS:Radio is currently in a closed trial with 3 stations as we gather intensive feedback and we wouldn’t recommend using the beta for mission critical projects.
The best thing would be to use the currently available version of FrontlineSMS(version 1.6) which you can download from here. http://www.frontlinesms.com/resources/download/ It is not customised for radios but has often been used for election monitoring – check out the Election Monitoring Group on our forum for more http://frontlinesms.ning.com/group/electionmonitoring
I will be sure to keep you in the loop when FrontlineSMS:Radio is ready which is likely to be early next year.
All the best,
Amy \~/
